September 22, 2023 – Brooklyn, NY – Today, Ørsted, a leading global clean energy company, and Newlab, a deep tech innovation hub, announced a new partnership to launch the Future Energy Storage Studio, a program that will engage start-ups, industry leaders and other innovation partners to advance early-stage energy storage technologies.
At the Summit, DOE will launch Storage Innovation 2030 to develop specific and quantifiable RD&D pathways to achieving the targets identified in the Long Duration Storage Energy Earthshot. Industry representatives are encouraged to register to present.
The first energy storage technique was invented in 1839 with the creation of the fuel cell by William Grove. This cell only required oxygen and hydrogen in the presence of an electrolyte. As technology advanced, a French researcher developed a rechargeable battery based on lead-acid chemistry.
Energy storage technologies are devices that store electrical and mechanical energy. These technologies have the potential to reduce energy waste, ensure reliable energy access, and build a more balanced energy system. Over the last few decades, advancements in efficiency, cost, and capacity have made these devices more affordable and accessible.
Our Summit aims to highlight the fundamental role that energy storage will play in this journey, and will strive to recognise, explore and analyse key challenges that may present themselves on the trajectory ahead.
